Midweek on the Midway

The University of Chicago Office of Civic Engagement has been hosting the popular “Midweek on the Midway” family movie series for more than a decade. The 2022 summer movie series kicks off Wednesday, July 6.
Movies will begin after sunset every Wednesday night from July 6 through August 10. Before each screening, starting at 7 p.m., there will be a youth-oriented activity led by a campus or community partner.
Moviegoers are encouraged to share their “Midweek on the Midway” experiences by tagging their photos with @UChiEngagement and #midweekmidway in their photos.
Location: 1130 Midway Plaisance, between Kimbark and Dorchester avenues.

Wednesday, July 6 – Soul (begins at dusk)
Activities – 7 p.m.
Join the Jazz Links Ensemble before the movie for some soul-enriching jazz on the Midway. Brought to you by the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Wednesday, July 13 – Encanto (begins at dusk)
Activities – 7 p.m.
Enjoy traditional arepas, just like Encanto’s Julieta makes, courtesy of UChicago Dining and Chartwells Higher Education. Free to the first 150 guests.
Wednesday, July 20 – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (begins at dusk)
Activities – 7 p.m.
Find the golden ticket hidden in a Kilwins chocolate bar — free for the first 100 kids! The lucky winner gets a basket of sweets and a $50 Stan’s Donuts and Coffee gift certificate.
Wednesday, July 27 – Luca (begins at dusk)
Activities – 7 p.m.
Learn about real-life sea monsters through a Field Museum-led Jurassic Oceans activity and take home a free basil plant (first 100 kids) to make your own pesto, courtesy of Brightview.
Wednesday, August 3 – Sing 2 (begins at dusk)
Activities – 7 p.m.
Pick up some new moves on the Midway during a pre-movie choreography session led by Dance Connect Worldwide and inspired by Buster Moon and his players.
Wednesday, August 10 – Raya (begins at dusk)
Activities – 7 p.m.
Before Raya starts her dragon search, make your very own dragon with Stephanie Lupu and the Hyde Park Arts Center.
