In an extraordinary career, Charles Newell, led Court Theatre, the professional theatre of the University of Chicago, as the Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director of Court Theatre for thirty years and is now the theatre’s Senior Artistic Consultant.
Mark Larson, author of Ensemble: An Oral History of Chicago Theater and Working in the 21st Century, will lead a lively celebratory discussion of Mr. Newell’s myriad accomplishments, particularly in audience development and Court’s engagement with the local South Side community. With full recognition, Court Theatre was bestowed the 2022 Regional Theater Tony Award.
