First Monday Jazz: Edwin Daugherty

First Monday Jazz, APL’s longest-running program features live performances by established and emerging Chicago artists.

Our April artist is Edwin Daugherty

Chicago Saxophonist Edwin Daugherty has long been an influential innovator on the experimental and acid jazz scene. He has made multiple appearances at the Chicago Jazz Festival as well as Orchestra Hall, the Son D’ver festival [Paris], Umbria Jazz Festival [Italy], the Jazz Showcase, Park West, Green Mill, Apollo Theater [NY] and numerous other venues around the world. He has performed and/or recorded with Quincy Jones, Natalie Cole, Richard Muhal Abrams, Phil Coran, the Motown Orchestra, Isaac Hayes, Nancy Wilson, BB King and Roberta Flack among others.

 

Edwin has participated in numerous music and film projects with original tracks featured by Sony Music and the Walt Disney Company. He is also a highly regarded fine arts educator with degrees from Governors State and Concordia Universities including a Masters in Educational Administration. He is a long time member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians with its dedication to cutting edge creative music and a Chicago icon.
