Kenwood Gardens 2023 Summer Concert Series

Summer in the gardens is upon us. Yes, that’s right – that means our beloved Summer Concert Series at Kenwood Gardens is back!

From May through October, we are delighted to collaborate with local musicians and instrumental ensembles to host free concerts for our neighbors and friends in our South Side sanctuary each month.

Kicking off our summer music series is multi-disciplinary artist Isaiah Collier (@colliersworld). On May 20th, from 6-8pm, join us in the gardens for a special performance by Isaiah Collier & the The Chosen Few.

Isaiah Collier is a Chicago-based writer, educator, arranger and composer. An alumnus of the Jazz Institute of Chicago and The Chicago High School for the Performing Arts, Collier draws influence from saxophone masters such as John Coltrane, Ari Brown, Roscoe Mitchell, and Gene Ammons. He will be joined by his band The Chosen Few.

Kenwood Gardens continues Rebuild’s commitment to investing in the possibilities and lives of Black land. Transformed from thirteen formerly vacant city lots into a thriving urban oasis in the Greater Grand Crossing community, the outdoor gardens, which are home to native and regionally appropriate flora and fauna, offer visitors immersive experiences in the natural environment, providing opportunities to engage with health, wellness, music, education and cultural programming amongst carefully curated and sustainably sourced plants and animal life.

These performances are free, open to the public and appropriate for all ages. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and layer clothing for evenings with chillier forecasts. Seating is first-come, first-serve.
