University Symphony Orchestra Concert & Livestream
Epic Film Scores of the Mid-20th Century
For its mid-winter concert, the University Symphony presents a selection of powerful film scores from the mid-20th century, reflecting important moments in our history and culture. Leonard Bernstein’s On the Waterfront, crafted for Elia Kazan’s 1954 masterpiece documenting the crime and corruption that plagued the longshoremen’s union of Hoboken, New Jersey, forms the centerpiece of this compelling program. Short medleys from Gone With the Wind (1939), Exodus (1962), To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), and The Magnificent Seven (1962) – the latter two composed by Elmer Bernstein, or “Bernstein West” – round out the evening.
Free admission. Donations appreciated: $10 general / $5 students
This concert will be livestreamed here on our website and on the Department of Music’s YouTube channel.
