Presented in partnership with Umu Igbo Unite (UIU)\, this year’s program celebrates Igbo music and culture while raising support for Àkójọpọ̀’s year-round initiatives in Pan-African art\, music\, education\, concerts\, and professional development opportunities. \n  \nGuests will be welcomed with a traditional kola nut experience\, setting the tone for an evening rooted in cultural celebration\, community\, and connection. The event will bring together students\, artists\, professionals\, and community members from across Chicago for an immersive cultural dining and artistic experience. The evening will also feature cultural performances highlighting works by Igbo composers\, alongside access to the art exhibition on display at Connect Gallery. \nThank you to all of our community supporters\, including Connect Gallery\, Barry’s\, Unan Imports\, Dozzy’s Grill\, Umu Igbo Unite (UIU)\, the Chicago White Sox\, and more partners to be announced as the event approaches. \n  \nTier 1: Enjoy native rice with chicken/beef/fish\, served with a soft drink or bottled water. DESCRIPTION:Jazz in the Court – Harper Court \nSponsored by the University of Chicago\, the popular free outdoor concerts are scheduled for Friday afternoons in June\, July\, August\, and September at Harper Court\, 5235 S. Harper Court\, Hyde Park (53rd Street and S. Lake Park Avenue). The concerts are typically held on the first Friday of each month\, but due to the July 4 and Labor Day holidays\, the scheduled dates are now Friday\, July 5; Friday\, July 10; Friday\, August 7; and Friday\, September 11. \nIn honor of the 100-year anniversary of Oscar Brown Jr.’s birth\, the Friday\, July 10 concert will have extended hours from 12-5 p.m. \nSamuel J. Lewis II of the Hyde Park Jazz Festival produced the 2026 series. Wendy Walker Williams\, Executive Director of Community Partnerships at the UChicago Office of Civic Engagement will serve as emcee. \nThe concert series is dedicated to the memory of Carolyn Albritton\, the former long-time producer of the event\, who recently passed away. \nThe lineup includes: \nMEAGAN MCNEAL – Friday\, June 5\, 12-2:30 p.m. \nOSCAR BROWN JR. – 100 YEARS OF GENIUS – Friday\, July 10\, 12-5 p.m. (SPECIAL EXTENDED HOURS) \nJULIAN DAVIS REID’S CIRCLE OF TRUST – Friday\, August 7\, 12-2:30 p.m. \nQUENTIN COAXUM QUINTENT – Friday\, September 11\, 12-2:30 p.m. \nPlease bring your favorite chair. Limited seating will be available\, but we cannot guarantee seats. Please\, no seat saving. The Harper Court parking structure will offer limited free parking between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the June\, August\, and September concerts. Free parking will be extended until 6 p.m. for the July concert ONLY. Standard parking rates will apply for those entering the garage before 10 a.m. or exiting after 4 p.m. for June\, August\, and September concerts or after 6 p.m. for the July concert. The parking entrance is on S.
